Do you want to dance at the Bratislava in Movement festival? Apply now!
We are looking for dancers for a site-specific performance Come and dance in the Pulse of the Pressburg project!
Every year we prepare a site-specific performance in the streets of Bratislava. This year, we will present Yuri Korec’s choreography called The Pulse of the Pressburg, on September 7 and 8, 2024, in front of the historical building of the Slovak National Theatre and around the Ganymede fountain.
This performance will also include five male or female dancers from 18 to 35 years of age who will come from the audition. They should live in Bratislava and have previous dance experience. Ideally, they should come from different cultural backgrounds. If you are interested, apply by August 5, 2024 via a simple online form.
A group of ten dancers will present a work in the authentic environment of historical architecture during four performances. Their purpose is to draw attention to the multicultural character of Bratislava as a city that grew up on multinational dialogue.
“Our ambition is to create a vibrant, colorful performance that reminds us of the diversity of Bratislava’s communities. They have always been, are and will be an important essence of Bratislava’s metropolitan identity. Together with the performers, the audience will experience the dynamically changing nature of the public space on Hviezdoslav Square,” Slovak choreographer Juraj Korec, who works under the artistic brand Yuri Korec & Co, explains the purpose of the work. He has several successful full-length dance works to his credit and is also a co-author of internationally awarded dance films.
Contemporary dance resonates in urban culture thanks to the international contemporary dance festival Bratislava in Movement. “For 28 years, our festival has been creating opportunities to show contemporary dance even outside the classical spaces of theaters. The festival therefore initiates the creation of site-specific projects, which give artists the opportunity to create and enliven the streets and squares, or other public places of Bratislava. With the Pulse of Pressburg, we continue to fulfill this idea,” stated the artistic director of our festival and at the same time the dramaturg of the performance, Miroslava Kovářová.
At the festival Bratislava in Movement 2021, we presented the site-specific event GENIUS LOCI in cooperation with Yuri Korc. Juraj Žilinčár’s photography captured Yuri’s choreography called Weittenhof.
